A few unsuccessful steals and one badly-played hand left me short-stacked with 100K, and I wasn't getting any cards, so I just sat and got blinded and anted away and waited for other people to bust out until the field dropped to 40, putting me in the money. Shortly thereafter, I rereaised all-in with 55, and the original raiser (John Juanda) called me with JT of spades. He made his spade flush on the turn, and I busted out in 36th place. This won me $12,500, which wouldn't be much if I had paid the full $10,000 for the entry, but given that I got in for $1000, is a nice profit. But I was soooo close to getting in the really big money. If only I had won the race! Still, I've only played in two $10K events, so finishing in the money once out of 2 isn't bad.
Thanks to all who backed me or rooted for me; it really helps to know you have people on your side.
